I was kind of nervous to volunteer with my first activity for people with disabilities here. We got helmets on everyone and took them “just” around the block, but there weren’t enough of the right kind of bikes for certain people, so I took a passenger on the double recumbent 3 times. Twice I took little boys, but one time it was a guy who weighs 220 pounds, and couldn't help me pedal. So I was spinning out a whole lot trying to get our combined weight plus whatever that old bike weighs up what I guess was a tiny incline. I barely made it back, my legs were dead and I was sweating both from working hard and from nervousness because I was afraid we might tip. The uneven weight with everyone I took got us close to tipping, and it was tricky to steer that thing around obstacles like corners, potholes, cars.
Today we went on a hike with some of the people involved in McKay’s REU. It ended up being just over 10 miles not including elevation change, and it was pretty steep in some parts.
